Katarina started skating ice at the age of five. She was only five when her abilities became apparent and at the age of Karl-Marx-Stadt she entered the school that was specifically made for kids with athletic abilities. In this school, she was introduced to her coach Jutta Muler. Witt made her breakthrough season in 1982 when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Then, she was dominating the sport with elegance and grace. Olympic success Katarina Wit won gold in ice skating for women at Sarajevo Winter Games 1984.
